A practical explanation of what RoadTripPlanner collects, why we collect it and the choices you have.

Who we are

RoadTripPlanner is a web app for planning multi-day road trips, saving stops, grouping them by day and sharing itineraries. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it when you visit or use roadtripplanner.app.

If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@roadtripplanner.app.

Information we collect

We collect account information you provide, such as your name, email address and sign-in method. If you sign in with a third-party provider, we receive the basic profile information needed to create or access your account.

We collect trip planning content you add to the app, including trip names, routes, stops, notes, dates, locations and sharing settings. We also collect technical information such as device, browser, IP address, pages viewed and approximate location derived from your request where needed for security and service operation.

If you subscribe to RoadTripPlanner Pro, our payment processor collects the billing details needed to take payment, such as your name, billing address and card information. We do not store full card details ourselves; we keep a billing record that includes your subscription status, plan, renewal or cancellation dates and a payment-provider customer reference.

How we use information

We use your information to provide the planner, save and sync your trips, authenticate your account, generate routes, support sharing features, improve reliability, prevent abuse and respond to support requests.

We may use aggregated or de-identified information to understand how people use RoadTripPlanner and to improve route planning, performance and product design.

Payments

RoadTripPlanner Pro is a paid subscription. We use Stripe to process payments and manage subscriptions. When you subscribe, Stripe collects and processes your payment information under its own terms and privacy policy, and we receive confirmation of your subscription status rather than your full card details.

We store a limited billing record — your payment-provider customer reference, plan, subscription status and renewal or cancellation dates — so we can give you access to paid features, manage renewals and provide support.

Maps, routing and service providers

RoadTripPlanner uses trusted service providers to operate the app, including hosting, database, authentication, payment, analytics, map, geocoding and routing services. Location searches, coordinates and route requests may be sent to map and routing providers so they can return search results, addresses, routes and travel estimates.

These providers process information on our behalf or under their own terms where they independently provide part of the service. We only share what is reasonably needed to run RoadTripPlanner.

Analytics

We use PostHog, a product-analytics and logging service, to understand how RoadTripPlanner is used, diagnose errors and improve the service. PostHog may set cookies or use similar technologies, and once you sign in we may associate usage events with your account, including your email address and name.

Our analytics data is processed in the European Union. We use this information to improve reliability and product design, not to sell your personal information.

Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and similar browser storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences and protect the app from misuse. Some of this storage is necessary for RoadTripPlanner to work.

We also use cookies or similar technologies for analytics, as described above. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies may prevent sign-in or planning features from working.

Sharing and visibility

Trips are private to your account unless you choose to share them or use a feature that makes a trip available through a link or collaboration flow. Anyone with access to a shared link may be able to view the trip details included in that link.

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect RoadTripPlanner and its users, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition or asset sale.

Retention and security

We keep your information for as long as needed to provide RoadTripPlanner, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and maintain security. You may ask us to delete your account or specific personal information, subject to legal and operational limits.

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please use a strong password and keep your sign-in credentials safe.

International data transfers

Some of our service providers — including hosting, database, payment, map and geocoding providers — are based outside the UK and European Economic Area, so your information may be transferred to and processed in other countries.

Where we transfer personal information internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the provider's adequacy status or standard contractual clauses, to protect it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your personal information, or object to certain processing. You can contact us at privacy@roadtripplanner.app to make a request.

If you are in the UK or European Economic Area, our legal bases may include performing our contract with you, legitimate interests, consent where required, and compliance with legal obligations.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as RoadTripPlanner changes. When we make material changes, we will update the date on this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app or by email.
